Safety - Workplace

WHMIS (E-SWHG-E)

Description
The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national hazard communication standard. It is aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). This training reflects the most recent WHMIS requirements and complies with the December 2025 transition requirements.

In every province and territory across Canada, employers are required to provide workers with the information necessary to work safely with hazardous products. This forms part of workers’ right to know, as set out in occupational health and safety legislation.

By completing this module, learners will be trained on the requirements for labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), including how to read and understand WHMIS-compliant labels and SDSs. They will also learn about the hazards associated with hazardous products and their potential effects on health and safety, as well as safe work procedures for the handling, use, storage, and disposal of these products.

This course is valid for a period of one year for individuals who wish to update their knowledge annually.

Upon completion of this program, you will understand and demonstrate knowledge of WHMIS labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), WHMIS pictograms and their meanings, and the different methods used to identify hazards. You will also learn safe practices for the storage, handling, use, and disposal of hazardous products, as well as appropriate emergency response measures. In addition, you will know what actions to take if a hazardous situation occurs, including an accidental release or uncontrolled emission.
